Quick Guide

Best Eyebrow Shape For Every Face Shape

The right brow balances your face. A rule of thumb: add the curve or angle your face does not have.

Face ShapeBest BrowsWhy It Works
OvalSoft Arch, Soft AngledBalanced faces suit most shapes. A soft arch keeps everything in proportion.
RoundHigh Arch, Soft AngledA lifted, angled arch adds height and definition to soft curves.
SquareRounded, Soft ArchCurved brows soften a strong jaw and angular features.
HeartRounded, Soft ArchA low, rounded curve softens a wider forehead and balances a narrow chin.
DiamondRounded, Soft ArchCurves soften wide cheekbones and add width at the brow line.
OblongStraight, Soft ArchFlatter brows draw the eye across the face, so it looks shorter and wider.
TriangleSoft Angled, Soft ArchA defined arch with a longer tail adds width to a narrower forehead.
Brow Mapping

How To Map Your Eyebrows At Home

Makeup artists use three lines from the side of your nose. All you need is a pencil or a makeup brush.

1

Where It Starts

Hold the pencil straight up from the outer edge of your nostril. Your brow should begin where the pencil crosses it.

2

Where It Arches

Angle the pencil from your nostril through the outer edge of your iris while looking straight ahead. That is your highest point.

3

Where It Ends

Angle it from your nostril past the outer corner of your eye. The tail should end on this line, level with or slightly above the start.

Shaping Tips

Tips For Better Brows

Mark Before You Pluck

Outline your new shape with a brow pencil first, then only remove hairs outside the lines.

Grow Before You Shape

Brows take 6 to 8 weeks to grow back. Let them fill in before changing to a new shape.

Step Back Often

Check both brows in a full mirror after every few hairs. Close-up mirrors make it easy to overdo one side.

Match Your Color

Choose a pencil or powder one to two shades lighter than your hair for a soft, natural look.

Brush Them Up

A clear brow gel brushed upward makes brows look fuller and lifts the whole eye area.

Go Pro For Big Changes

For threading, lamination or a big shape change, a brow artist can map and shape them for you.

Questions And Answers

Eyebrow Shape FAQ

How Do I Know My Eyebrow Shape?

Look at where your brow is highest and how it gets there. If it barely rises, it is straight. A gentle curve is a soft arch, a clear point is soft angled, a smooth half-moon is rounded and a tall, lifted peak is a high arch. This tool measures all of that from your photo for you.

What Are The Main Eyebrow Shapes?

The five most common shapes are straight, soft arch, soft angled, rounded and high arch. Most people's natural brows sit close to one of these, and small grooming changes can move them toward another.

Which Eyebrow Shape Suits My Face?

Pick the shape that adds what your face lacks. Round faces suit lifted, angled arches. Square, heart and diamond faces suit rounded, softer curves. Oblong faces look best with flatter brows. Oval faces suit almost any shape, especially a soft arch.

How Accurate Is The Eyebrow Detector?

It works best with a clear, front-facing photo, relaxed brows and hair off the forehead. Raised eyebrows, a tilted head, heavy bangs or very light brow hair can change the result. Treat it as a helpful guide, not a strict rule.

What Is Eyebrow Mapping?

Brow mapping uses three lines from the side of your nose to find where each brow should start, arch and end. The detector draws these lines on your photo so you can see how your brows line up and where small changes would help.

Are My Eyebrows Supposed To Match?

No. Almost everyone has one brow that sits a little higher or arches a little differently. Small differences look natural. If one brow is clearly higher, filling in the lower arch slightly can even them out.

Is My Photo Uploaded Or Saved?

No. The whole analysis runs in your browser on your own device. Your photo is never uploaded, stored or shared.

Is The Eyebrow Shape Detector Free?

Yes. It is completely free, needs no account or app, and works on phones, tablets and computers.
