There are seven main face shapes. Knowing yours makes it much easier to choose a haircut, glasses and beard style that suit you.
How face shape is worked out
Face shape comes from four measurements: the width of your forehead, the width of your cheekbones, the width of your jaw and the length of your face from hairline to chin. How those numbers compare, and how angular your jaw is, decides which shape you are closest to.
Most people are not a perfect example of one shape. It is normal to sit between two, such as oval and oblong or round and square. When that happens, advice for both shapes can work for you.
Choose your face shape
Round
Almost as wide as it is long, with full cheeks and a curved jawline. Height on top and angular frames add length and definition.
Square
Forehead, cheekbones and jaw are close in width, with a strong, angular jaw. Soft layers and round or oval frames balance the angles.
Heart
A wide forehead that narrows to a small or pointed chin. Chin-length cuts and frames that are wider at the bottom even things out.
Diamond
High, wide cheekbones with a narrower forehead and jaw. The rarest shape; volume at the forehead and chin softens the cheek width.
Oblong
Clearly longer than it is wide, with fairly straight sides. Also called rectangle. Bangs, side volume and wide frames shorten the look.
Triangle
The jaw is the widest part and the forehead the narrowest. Also called pear. Volume at the crown and temples balances a strong jaw.
